1) Can I get all the parts and build my own crossovers?
 We may add an option for those who want to do their own soldering, but for now we only offer the kits with assembled crossovers.
2)Will the new drivers in the kits work as replacements for my older Speakerlab speakers?
 Yes, with a little work. The tweeter hole in the old speakers will have to be filled or capped as the new tweeter is smaller in diameter. The new woofer should cover the old hole completely, though you will have to seal the old screw holes and the void left if you have the 'pin cushion' style basket.
3)Are there any specific room placement requirements for my new kits?
 The Point Line speakers are designed to work very well on a book shelf, but can also work out in a room. If they are out in the room they have a higher low frequency cutoff and would work best with a subwoofer. Our Legend Series speakers can be floor or stand mounted (they can also work on shelves or in cabinetry, but they are heavy!).
4)Can I get grille frames?
 We are currently working with our cabinet maker to come up with grille options. They will be listed as a separate part and will be able to be retrofit onto speakers that people have already purchased.
5)Do the speakers have to be airtight?
 Yes, all our speakers are sealed box designs and depend on the 'air spring' of a sealed box to function correctly. We may design ported speakers in the future, but even a ported speaker needs a leak-proof box (other than the port) to function correctly.
6)What size subwoofer would you suggest for the Point1?
 The size of a subwoofer is dependent on the room size and configuration. Since the Point1's play down below 80Hz, they will match well with most subwoofers.
7)Are these new kits considered "monitors"?
 They are designed to work well on a shelf, sound amazing in nearfield, and can take significant power, so in that sense they are similar to many studio monitors, but they also have a very smooth off axis response, which is not common with studio monitors.
8)How should I finish the MDF cabs if I choose that finish?
 There are many finishes that work on MDF, it is really up to what you want them to look like. We do recommend that you choose a finish that will seal the wood so that they won't be damaged if they get something spilled on them. Check with your local wood working store for recommendations.
9) Will the Point1/Point2/Point2D work as rear speakers with my DAS7 speakers or older 7's?
 The Point Line speakers have very even and wide dispersion, so they will work quite well as a rear or surround speaker. The Point2D has controlled vertical dispersion, so it works well as a surround in rooms where you don't want the speaker reflecting as much off the floor and ceiling.
10) What is the power handling of the Point1?
 200 watts music, 300 watts peak.
11) How do I hookup the speakers when they have 4 binding posts?
 Our speakers can be single, bi-wired or bi-amped. If you only have two conductor speaker wire running to each speaker, leave the bridging clips (included) in place and connect to either the top or bottom set of binding posts. If you want to bi-wire your speakers (Bi-wiring means running two sets of speaker wire from each amplifier channel to each speaker for improved clarity and dynamics), remove the bridging clips and run one set to the top binding posts (high frequencies) and one set to the bottom binding posts (low frequencies). If you want to bi-amplify your speakers (bi-amplifying means running two sets of speaker wire to each speaker to connect one amplifier channel into the crossover for the low frequencies, and one amplifier channel into the crossover for the high frequencies), remove the bridging clips and run from one amplifier channel to the top binding posts (high frequencies) and one amplifier channel to the bottom binding posts (low frequencies). To do this, you need an amplifier that provides two output channels for each speaker channel (in stereo, that means Two left outputs and Two right outputs!).
12) Will the Point1's work well with my TV? What about a center channel?
 Yes, they work very well for TV because they present very clear dialog and are also very dynamic. The Point1C and Point2C center channel speakers are voiced to match any speaker in the Point Line to give you perfect voicing for all channels.
13) Can I hang the Point1 speakers, and what do you recommend for mounts...what is the speaker weight?
 Yes, you can hang them. They are built out of 3/4" MDF, so you can screw right into the cabinets (just don't use screws longer than 3/4", you don't want to create an air leak, or damage the internal components). We recommend Omni Mount 20.0 brackets which are available in black and white. The speakers weigh 11 pounds each.
14) What is the difference between this Point1 and the .1 that I have from the '70's?
 The new Point1's are a slightly different size and shape. They have modern drivers that are designed for better dynamics and greater power handling. They have much stronger cabinets to decrease cabinet resonances. What they share is great sound and a design that works well on a book shelf as well as on a speaker stand.
15) What is the minimum and maximum power required to drive the speakers?
 They are a small sealed box design, so they aren't very efficient (86dB@1W@1m), but they are very dynamic, so even with a small amplifier, they sound very good. We recommend at least 20 watts per channel and they can work well running up to 300 watts per channel.
17) What height of speaker stands do you recommend?
 You want the acoustic center (roughly the mid-point between the woofer center and the tweeter center) to be at ear height or slightly above (most seating puts the ear at roughly 44'', so a 35''-37'' stand height works well). If they will be positioned significantly below or above the listener's ear height, you can tilt them, but the Point1 is designed to have very good off axis response, so they can provide great sound even at odd heights.
18) Can the speakers go up against a wall?
 Yes, they are designed to work near a boundary and it will enhance their low frequency extension (when close to a wall or on a shelf you will find the bass extension will go down into the low 50Hz range).
19) Will they work as computer speakers?
 Yes, you will need an amplifier for them like the Parasound Zamp.
